About Amanda Visell

Amanda Visell é uma artista americana residente em Los Angeles, Califórnia, segundo ela por opção. Suas obras são doces e encantadoras por fora, mas perigosas e vorazes por dentro, principalmente quando você se depara com um simpático crocodilo devorador de bebês. Ela é do tipo de artista que não se limita apenas a uma tela branca, tanto que Amanda já concretizou seus personagens em madeira (peças únicas e esculpidas por ela mesma) e resina.
Há 10 anos, Amanda (sempre acompanhada da sua inseparável amiga Michelle Valigura) queria trabalhar com animação e o amigo de um amigo a indicou para trabalhar em um estúdio na Califórnia. Depois dessa e outras várias tentativas frustradas de um emprego decente na área de animação, ela começou a pintar várias telas para montar um portfólio bacana e “quem-sabe-um-dia” trabalhar no Cartoon Network ou na Nickelodeon. Mas o que ela menos esperava aconteceu: foi convidada a fazer uma exposição solo na galeria La Luz de Jesus em Hollywood.
Depois de várias séries de pinturas, incluindo uma participação em 2007 na Disney Gallery, vieram os toys. A maioria feita quase artesanalmente – madeira e resina pintada a mão – são tão admiradas e raras quanto as obras “catoonescas” de Amanda Visell. Entre eles estão o Drunky McShunky & Pink Elephant, o recém-lançado prata e dourado AxEphunt, além de uma participação na série Vivisect Playset de Luke Chuey com o Baby Eating Crocodile.

Amanda Visell is a Los Angeles based artist, by her own wish she says. Her art is sweet and charming outside, but dangerous inside, especially when you hit a Baby eating Alligator. She’s the kind of artist who’s not limited to a blank canvas, and have already given her character’s life to wood and resin toys.
10 years ago, Amanda (together with her BFF Michelle Valigura) always wanted to work with animation, so she met up with a friend of a friend who indicated her to a studio in California. She thought it was a crappy job and after many other frustrations she began to make several paintings for a portfolio and who-know-one-day work at cartoon Network or Nickelodeon. But what she got invited first for a solo exhibition, what she had never thought about.
After many painting series, including a collab in Disney Gallery in 2007, came the toys. Most of her production is handmade – wood sculpture and resin hand painted – are as admirable and rare as Amanda’s cartoonish paintings. The lauched toys are Drunky McShunky & Pink Elephant, the recently released silver and gold AxEphunt, and even a collab at Luke Chuey’s Vivsect Playset series with Baby Eating Crocodile.
